Voices

In my lifetime I have encountered many voices. There were voices from family and friends, who meant well, voices from wise men with experience, voices from fools, even voices from good and bad spiritual leaders. There are so many voices until if you’re not careful, it can be hard to discern the right voice for any given situation. One thing for sure is that we have to live with the choice of voice we choose to adhere to. I have found it prudent to hear and trust the voice of God.

I remember my mother telling me a story about a day when she was with my niece, her granddaughter. She said my niece had a tendency not to respond to her words quickly. One day they were walking down a street where she could see afar off an open manhole. My niece who was running ahead and not paying attention did not see the hole in the sidewalk. Mom shouted stop! But, my niece continued running and playing. It was only when my mother screamed that she stopped barely avoiding the manhole. She explained to her the importance of hearing her voice and that it would keep her safe from unseen dangers. A lesson I would never forget.

God’s voice is His Word. Yes, Jesus Christ is the Word made flesh that dwelt among us. He spoke of the Comforter (Holy Spirit) to come in His name giving us power over evil and putting us in remembrance of what He said. We know that God is a spirit and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth and one truth is, a tree is known by the fruit it bare. I wouldn’t go to an apple tree looking for oranges or to a fig tree looking for pears. Always try the spirit by the spirit considering the tree (source) from which you partake (receive advice) of when hearing a voice.

As Christians we must ask for and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. He will guide us to all truth. And, if we be led and are walking in the Spirit we should have some fruit of the Spirit which is; love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance (Galatians 5: 22-23 KJV). It is very easy to discern and hear the voice of God through a person having such fruit.

It is good to reject and not hear the voice of a person who exhibits fruit of and partakes in adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations / jealousies, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envying’s, murders, drunkenness, and revellings/orgies.(Galatians 5: 19-21 KJV).

In conclusion, hearing the voice of God is hearing the Word of God. Ask for and receive the Holy Spirit and He will guide you to all truth. Walk in the Spirit, hear and trust the voice of God for the battlefield of the mind is where war is waged for your soul. Put on the whole armor of God then watch and pray.
